I Should Title this “How to Look STUPID on Facebook”…

This is merely a FYI post, but it needs to be put out there.  HOW many of you get unfriended when somebody’s post shows up on YOUR wall and the original poster gets PO’d that you respond?  Well here is why that happens.  The original poster, the OP-as I will  label him/her doesn’t even realize how to use Facebook properly.  He/she will post something not realizing that it goes to all of their friends walls 9 times out of 10 and then get angry over differences of opinion. Many of them make themselves look totally stupid when they attack others who respond too.

When posting there is a little drop-down arrow next to the blue “post” button.  It says “public”, “friends”, “friends except acquaintances, etc…That is how one makes sure the post reaches the intended recipients–otherwise it goes public and people assume the topic is up for debate.  Once in a while when one responds, one might  get responses like: “Don’t come to my wall telling me how to…” blah blah blah…You get it.  If you know someone who is doing this, please share this blog entry. It might keep that person from looking like a total moron.  If a post from someone else shows up on YOUR wall, then it IS public and up for discussion.  If they didn’t want it that way, they should have paid attention to that feature.

Another good idea is putting friends in certain categories such as “co-workers”, family, acquaintances, etc…when adding them. That way one can target only to those people they want to share thoughts with.

Many times these posts tend to be political as well.  I’ve had to tell people to knock off their attacks at each other on my wall more than once and then I shared this info.  I see a lot less BS on my wall now as a result, so if you’re having to endure this crap, feel free to share the link to this blog entry.

Above all, don’t fret if you get unfriended over such bull. People like that aren’t true friends anyway! Have  a great weekend~!

And don’t fret if you get unfriended on Facebook over a difference of opinion. If people only want people on their friends list who think like they do, before long they’ll be talking to themselves in the mirror.  They don’t tend to keep friends very long either because they are more interested in controlling others and hearing themselves talk than they are in open discourse.

Updated post!

The Haunted Pen

I don’t post about actors and actresses a lot, but when I do it is because I see something in how they bring a character to life that warrants that they get more attention for how they do so.  The actor I am writing about now is a young man by the name of Gary Cairns II.  You might know him from films such as “Hero Wanted“,  “Mad World“, The FX series “Justified” and the soon to be released film “Lost in a Crowd”.  Now he is working on a new movie called “Monumental” which you can learn more about at the link below.  You an also be a part of this project!

Also here is the Facebook fan page for it!  https://www.facebook.com/monumentalmoviepage  Please do click like and share this! It is going to be a good film!

Writer’s Block…Yes, Nana Had It…

Does anyone really know what “writer’s block” consists of?  I think Johnny Rzeznik summed it up best when he described it as when you think everything you write is crap even though it is not.  We all have these periods where we feel totally uninspired and cannot seem to find our “muse” or hear it when it’s trying to find us…Whatever it is, it does exist.   I have only found one cure for this. You don’t have to buy books to cure it because the books lead you only to one thing to do: KEEP WRITING!  That is right.  Even if you only do this for five minutes a day, just keep writing–even if it is in your own journal.  Sometimes economics preclude buying books anyway.

Sometimes we have a lot going on in our lives–so much that the muse has a hard time getting through to us.  If so, then it’s best to have a lighter schedule and have some “me” time when you can.  I think the big, bad writer’s block bullshit hits us when we have little to no “me” time–or “us” time when it comes to family.  I know people get really hit with it when they are depressed, but sometimes the best cure for the depression is change.  Be open to the idea of it. It may be something subtle–or a whole life-changing experience–but BE OPEN to the idea. Life has a way of changing the road that lies in front of you and it is probably for the best. Perhaps a family visit is in order, too if one hasn’t been home in a while. Sometimes that can wake up a lazy assed muse who is slacking…LOL

I write when I feel like it. Period. I have my days where I write the sappy stuff–which I don’t share because I don’t let folks see that side of me…Why?  Because that side of me is the vulnerable side and I don’t share it much. Then I have days where I totally bitch, rant rave and moan–lacing it with some absurd humor.  When I write music or stories, the rule is the same–I write what I feel and I don’t hold anything back.  It is also the greatest thing on the planet to do it that way because if I am writing a story, I can play God, base a character on someone who pisses me off (usually a bully) and either kill those types off or make them suffer! Gee, sounds like that “Rabbit” character on “Banshee” but I use a pen instead of a knife…Very therapeutic…Non fattening and the suckers who really piss me off keep breathing to get theirs another day when their crap catches up to them!  Watching that happen is the ultimate sort of vindication, I think.

Have you guys seen “Banshee” yet? Well if you’re not into nude scenes, change the channel but the story line totally kicks ass.  Every character on there has a story, a motive, a purpose…I like how they use the .gif shop and website to fill in holes rather than spend too much time on flashback scenes in the series.  It’s pure marketing genius in my book and 2.7 million viewers can’t be wrong. After all, it  is the highest rated series Cinemax has had thus far.  Innovation and ingenuity are key to its success. Plots and such are all original and not borrowed from elsewhere…I love it!

Why Must this Nation Be Divided So?

Freedom…Does anyone truly understand what the word really means any longer?  I remember a day when people could speak their minds without being labeled and hated by their neighbors. They simply agreed to disagree and left it alone.  We now live in an age that seems to give rise to a sentiment that change of heart can be brought about by bullying in courts or in the educational field.  If there is one thing people need to realize is that all the legislation one puts on paper will not change the hearts of the oppressed.

When a group is oppressed by another group to the point to where speaking can lead to being severely penalized–whether speaking about beliefs or political philosophy, that is tyranny.  There is no freedom in granting rights for one group without extending the same rights to another group and this is especially true when it comes to freedom of speech and expression.

To prosecute one individual for a hate crime without prosecuting others equally under the statute is no better than the discrimination suffered by minorities in the 50’s and 60’s.  IT is still discrimination because such laws are only applied subjectively and enforced as such.

It is a sad day in our country when someone murders a Native American and no hate crime is prosecuted.  It is almost always downplayed in the legal system.  It is also a sad day in this country when a woman can be killed simply for being a woman, or a girl killed simply for being “too American” and yet no one sees these as the hate crimes they truly are.   If we are going to prosecute “hate crimes” in this country it needs to be made clear that if the motive for the murder has anything to do with race, gender, ethnicity, political affiliation, etc… then it should be equally prosecuted and punished under those same hate crime laws, otherwise the laws are worthless and will result (eventually) in chaos.  There have been murders of women of different ethnic backgrounds based on pure misogyny and yet EVEN when the perpetrator admits that was the motive, it is STILL downplayed in court.

Our country should not be basing legal decisions based on the cultures of other countries. That is not done when a citizen of this country is incarcerated or killed in other countries.  We are expected to know the laws and such and even in this country, ignorance of laws is not an excuse for breaking them so how is cultural background now being considered in such matters? It is ludicrous.

WE the people have one rule of law and that is based upon the Constitution of the United States and  courts should ONLY be operating under those laws–not those of another nation or entity.  We also have only ONE financial system and that is the ONLY one that should be allowed. To allow these practices to gain a foothold will result in this country being devoured from within. Remember the Texas Revolution? Remember the American Revolution? If not, I suggest that anyone unaware of what led to those should actually research what led to them.

Even with all of this there is new group of haters emerging in America and that hate based on the following things: Geographic location, which is regional bias and political haters on both left and right who are trying to force their agendas in such a way that if either side gains too much power, we could be living under a new type of apartheid system–if not a totalitarian regime in a few short decades. But no one seems to give a damn.  People are willing to conform to anyone that says what they want to hear. They will believe any false promise made, as long as they can believe it is not THEIR rights that will on the chopping block. They will feel secure as long as they are being spoon fed the load of crap that is keeping them from actually seeing that they are being used as well.

One can rest assured of one thing. Once they get what they want, they (those controlling the agenda) will go after supporters they didn’t desire to be in their little “clique” to begin with. This includes the artists, the dreamers, and those who towed the line until that line penalized them.  It all goes back to this:  Those who gain too much power are the enemies to America. There has to be a check and balance in this country to prevent that from happening–and that is slowly being eroded right before our eyes.

They are being eroded by those who, when they run out of opponents to “eat for lunch”, it is their own colleagues they will  harass, and when they either stop resisting or are silenced, they will then start on their own young. Such is the nature of this beast that is rising among Americans.  We must learn to work together. That beast is feeding off of, and encouraging the division.  It is time for citizens to sit down together and straighten this mess out.  The “divide and conquer” strategy is an old one and those who seek to divide us are doing so to keep us from working together.

WE cannot have “all or nothing”. That is not reality and people on both sides of the political fence need to sit down together and work on a new 3rd party manifesto in their own communities to address this issue and then fix this mess.  It may be what saves this nation because those in power now sure as hell won’t get the job done–that is, not without destroying those of us who know what it means to be  free and accept others as they are while allowing those who hate other Americans for various reasons to continue to unleash not only their verbal vitriol, but their violence toward each other as well in order to push their agendas upon each other…This is not the way to bring about change. It is a way to destroy our nation.

The only danger to free thinking Americans is the status-quo. This must change and our elected officials are failing the people–both parties.  They toss a crumb while they sit at the table of America like gluttons and devour the working people‘s earnings in their feasts and then try to justify this by saying it is to pay “the deficit” yet they exempt themselves from the very laws they pass upon us.  Is this the type of entity we want our children and grandchildren to be subject to? I don’t think so.

My ancestors learned long ago to never put any trust in the government. They break every treaty and they find a way to get around what they subject the rest of us to.  The sad thing is, the American forefathers and my ancestors would be very saddened to see what this nation has become today. Maybe we should take a lesson from Iceland.  Here is how they fixed their economy:

I think they should apply this here–to homeowners and to those who got duped in the student loan schemes, which has almost resulted in a new form of  “servitude”.

Sometimes Nana DOES know best…

Lil’ Man’s daddy decided to get a motorcycle…Nana said, “Don’t get that! It’s a damned death trap!” because she KNOWS her sons.  Well, guess what?! He didn’t even have it 36 hours, wiped out and hurt his shoulder.  He’s in a sling. I went to take him some money, but he had me to go ALL the way across town to take it to Daphne and told me to do so via the phone because he didn’t want me to see him like that. God help her!  I took it to her and let her know what he said to me…

Now bear in mind I had NO idea about his wrecking the motorcycle already. He never said a word about it.  She burst out laughing and told me EVERYTHING.  I then made it a point to call and say “I told you so!” and one of these days when I am dead and gone, I am certain that they will hear those four words echo in their heads every time they do something that in my life worried me to death about them all!  I take comfort in the fact that ONE DAY Lil’ Man’s daddy is going to know this feeling ALL TOO WELL!

Sometimes things do NOT change when the kids are grown…We still are concerned over them and there are times when we KNOW their personalities well enough that we KNOW with dead on accuracy that there are some things they cannot handle. Lil Man’s dad and motorcycles definitely do not mix…

Have a great weekend!

Texas…Figure THIS Out…

A well known hotel chain (name not mentioned)–somewhere in S. Texas has a room rate of $49.99.   The sales tax rate is 8.25% percent. When it comes to hotels/motels there is to be no county or city tax figured into the state sales tax rate.  Why are hotels gouging the travelers? If you go to any hotel/motel in TX and ask they’ll respond with either “because we can” or “that’s the way it is”.  First off, if the American Motel/Hotel Association gets wind of any shady business practice, they won’t endorse the hotels doing it.  Secondly, these “taxes” are NOT being reported to the state.  All taxes assessed HAVE to be listed on the receipt. If it only reads “state sales tax” and that $49.99 hotel room costs you more than 54.11, then you need to see a breakdown of taxes assessed.  Someone I know got charged $16.00 more and was told it was “state sales tax” which is an outright lie.

As you can see on this chart, the total charges assessed for the price of the room SHOULD HAVE BEEN the $54.11 since the total sales tax on that room is $4.12.  Guests are not responsible to pay the owners state income taxes–the school taxes, etc…That comes out of the owners GROSS INCOME.  Anyway, here is a state sales tax chart to back up what I’m PO’d about.

The problem arises in that most guests NEVER question why a fee is so high beyond the room price–even if it’s over $20.  Again, GUESTS are not responsible for the owners taxes and such–and any fees assessed outside of the sales tax should be on the receipt. If it’s not, something is amiss…  If they are being charged above the 8.25% sales tax, chances are the owners are collecting more income than they are reporting and people need to start turning them in.  If enough people do it, the Attorney General might step in and set them straight about their accounting practices, if the Federal Government doesn’t get them for failure to report their “income”.  Enough audits and these owners will stop pulling this shady crap on the travelers too.

There…I’m through griping for the moment! I think people are getting ripped off enough without these Hotels and Motels pulling this crap.

The Haunted Pen

This is a post unlike any I have ever done, but I think it took someone else to describe what it is I tend to look for…Deeds…Not personalities…Actions do speak louder than words, don’t they?  We spend most of our youth being programmed into what others want us to be, but when do we become ourselves?

I learned early on that life for me was one cage evolving into another. I spent most of my life watching shows and movies looking for heroes to save me from the hell I called my life from the time I was a child.  Then I came to a harsh realization.  No hero was coming.  No one was hearing me crying from the time I was 11 to the time I was grown–except me, a mouse named Brutus (at one point) and the air.

Until anyone can tell me what it is like to…

The Villain–or My View on Creating the Beast!

If I’m making a character a villain–they stay a villain. I might go back in time to the one point that could have kept them from going completely off the chain, but I am not going to have a confused, indecisive villain…The hero makes a few mistakes that one might wanna kick his/her ass over once in a while–but the villain just flies off the freaking chain!  I want my villains to be hated, loathed and totally detested by the reader–even if I have to make them totally unacceptable to society.  It’s rather therapeutic to write them that way and watch them get theirs…What character in a movie or book do you think is the ULTIMATE villain?  One of mine is the mother in “Precious. Just for Mo’Nique‘s performance alone as a villain (Mary), it is worth watching even if one gets totally pissed off over it! By the end of that movie, I don’t know of a single viewer that didn’t want to kick her ass–meaning that character! Mo’Nique did a great job!

Seriously…What character is your ultimate villain? “Shylock”? Richard III?  Cain?  J. R. Ewing?

Well here’s a link to my top ones but they deal with film…Whether in a movie, TV show or a book, I want to know your thoughts so PLEASE share them! Thanks!

Updated somewhat…Enjoy!

The Haunted Pen

I know a lot of people won’t agree with my picks…I’ll give my honorable mentions at the end.  However, I tend to judge by an older standard anyway and these listed meet it.  These are actors that did not short change their fans in the parts I watched.  Some got stereotyped and others didn’t get the mention they deserved…Well, they get it here!  Besides, it gives me a breather from my novel    😀

Letter to Lil Man:

Dear Kevin D. (aka “Lil Man) Thomas:

You are a child who is blessed with a mother and father that love you.  When I held you in my arms the day you were born, it brought back memories of when I held your father in my arms.  Like your father before you, I knew you were a fighter with a strong spirit.  Even now, almost 7 months later, I can see the love in your eyes just as I saw it in his.  When you reach for your mother, in your eyes, you are reaching for your guardian angel.

I may not show my emotions much, but they are there.  I would lay down my life for you, your mother, your brother and sisters, your father and/or your uncles on any day of the week. That is how much I love you all.  One day you will know what I mean by that but for now I log that here.  Maybe one day, when you are old enough to read it, then you will understand that our blood runs deeper than the muddy waters of the Mississippi River and our ancestry is important–all sides of it so embrace it and learn about it.

While I am here, I will show you what I can, but the rest will be up to you one day.  May you walk in beauty.  May the road rise up to meet you and the wind be at your back as well.  Above all,  These are blessings from  2 parts of your ancestry–the Irish and the Native American. You must also learn of all of your ancestors for there are valuable things you can carry through life with you.  I do know that  a wise person will always find his or her way (from a Tanzanian proverb) and that is my hope for you–to find a way–YOUR way in life.

Know who you are and where you come from. That is something nobody can ever take away from you. Above all, when you are older, live your life and go for your dreams. That is my hope for you.

With Love,

PS:  Sleep well, Lil Man…
