Letter to Lil Man:

Dear Kevin D. (aka “Lil Man) Thomas:

You are a child who is blessed with a mother and father that love you.  When I held you in my arms the day you were born, it brought back memories of when I held your father in my arms.  Like your father before you, I knew you were a fighter with a strong spirit.  Even now, almost 7 months later, I can see the love in your eyes just as I saw it in his.  When you reach for your mother, in your eyes, you are reaching for your guardian angel.

I may not show my emotions much, but they are there.  I would lay down my life for you, your mother, your brother and sisters, your father and/or your uncles on any day of the week. That is how much I love you all.  One day you will know what I mean by that but for now I log that here.  Maybe one day, when you are old enough to read it, then you will understand that our blood runs deeper than the muddy waters of the Mississippi River and our ancestry is important–all sides of it so embrace it and learn about it.

While I am here, I will show you what I can, but the rest will be up to you one day.  May you walk in beauty.  May the road rise up to meet you and the wind be at your back as well.  Above all,  These are blessings from  2 parts of your ancestry–the Irish and the Native American. You must also learn of all of your ancestors for there are valuable things you can carry through life with you.  I do know that  a wise person will always find his or her way (from a Tanzanian proverb) and that is my hope for you–to find a way–YOUR way in life.

Know who you are and where you come from. That is something nobody can ever take away from you. Above all, when you are older, live your life and go for your dreams. That is my hope for you.

With Love,

Nana

Nana Goes to the Sanctuary

The woman learned long ago that the words to this song hold very deep meaning for those who listen intently to it. With her pen in hand, she ventures up to her mountain again–and this time she won’t leave it until the arrows that are pulled from the quiver of her pen have found their target. The vision is there, but going deeper to get it is sometimes a challenge. It is often harder to follow through, but she will because this is a matter of finishing something–not starting anew. Some things are too important to not let the pen have its way. She learned long ago that those who should have stood by her were the very ones who stood in her way–hence the change of number and change of company. It paid off with a new gig… Have a great week! I hope you all dance…

And this is where one can find me–if one looks hard enough! 😉

And here’s a video to brighten your day…

You Lead the Way…

Please don’t be sad. You have much left ahead of you.  You give of your knowledge freely.  Why are you sad and depressed?  If your attitude is not what you’d like it to be where you are, change your latitude.  Yes you heard me.  Go elsewhere.  You must follow your spirit. If it bids you to leave you must leave–even if I want you to stay.  I would never confine you like that because to chain you would be to destroy you.

What? Come with you?  But I thought I stood in your way…You mean, you’ve actually thought this through?  It’s scary for me.  You are the vagabond.  You are the traveler. I’ve never done this before.  Are you certain that this is what you want?  I don’t understand.  What do you mean that I am the one who has been chained all this time?   I see.  We work as one.  We should move about as one unit.  Okay. You win.  I don’t know why I thought you were pulling away from me, when actually you were pulling me closer.

I guess we both must go where our spirits direct–together…However, you lead the way because I feel safer following in the tracks.
