Mah Buddy and I Now Share a Home!

For those of you who keep up with me on Facebook, you know that Buddy is due to go back to the vet on 7/26 for his follow-up on the heart worm treatment, but he has a few words he’d like to share with you guys!  He’s such a great dog!  Remember guys, get your pets their heart worm medicine!  If cats get it, there is no cure!

Tina

Hi everybody!

My mama Tina and Brian are now sharing an apartment because my old place has to get redone…I don’t know the right word fer it, but somebody out her does.  Mama’s been walking me twice a day and I get to go to the swimming’ pool and see all the kiddies!  They all love me and so does Mama’s land lady Angela.  I got to do some talking’ too, but Mama didn’t lemme play too much…She says until Dr. Bert says it’s okay to goof off again that I have to  keep resting and that is soooooo boooorrrrriiiiing!  I like Gizmo better now that Mama’s here because she makes him behave!  He doesn’t get to bite me hardly at all now!

Before I got to move in, Mama made Brian take me to this woman in town to get a good bath and I hate baths!  I hate water but I get me a drink from da pool!  I love it when the kiddies pet me too!  I like to listen to Brian play da piano but mama says it is getting a tune up! I thought only cars got tune ups! I thought pianos just get tuned I watch Brian work on cars when he does that!  I like to take his rags and make him tug ’em, but he laughs! I love playing tug of war sometimes–not all the time. I’d rather play fetch! I’ll go get the ball and make one of my humans come to me to get it! That’s more fun than bringing it to them!

And Mama gets me chicken meatballs! I love that! Brian gets me the jerky ones! If I hold still while mama picks up my nasties with a poopie bag, I gets more too!  Mama says I marked all the trees in the place already! I might share my other treats but I won’t share my chicken meatballs!  That makes Gizmo upset but Mama gives him the treats his human (Eric) says he can have.

I still get to sleep by Brian’s bed too! Does that rock or what?  Pumpkin and Socks (the cats) play with me and let me sleep by them too!  Mama is gonna put pics up of me again soon with my new bandana! It’s cool!

Buddy’s Point of View…

Hello everyone…Today I have a special guest.  He’s the family dog and his name is Buddy.  I went to visit him today and he was sort of scared…This is where it gets kind of tricky…I’m almost scared to admit it, but he got scared of a chihuahua. Also, he’s been diagnosed with heart worms and his treatments begin tomorrow.

Ola! My name is Buddy and I am a 12-year-old Labrador retriever mix!  Don’t refer to me as a dog because everyone knows I really do try to converse with the humans around me, and it’s not my fault if they can’t understand a thing I am saying.  My human’s mama, Tina spends more time with me lately.  She brushes me and walks me on my leash–well, I should say I walk her since I love taking the leash into my mouth and leading the way.

Yesterday she took me to the vet.  His name is Doctor Burt.  He’s a nice guy and he’s getting grey hair like me! He’s not old like me though.  He says I seem remarkably healthy for an older dog! I run, jump and play like a pup!  However I know Tina got upset.  The doctor said that I have things in my body called heart worms.  She gave me good food at home–sort of like the human food but she didn’t tell me I had medicine in it to fight infections. One of my humans gave me more of it today before Tina took me back to the vet.

I was ready to play at the vet and saw other dogs but Tina wouldn’t let me play with them.  She then walked me to the back of the animal hospital.  I don’t understand why, but she and another nice woman put me in a cage.  When they shut that door, I gave ’em both a piece of my mind too, but I know I heard Tina say, “I don’t know why you’re having such a fit! They can’t neuter you again!”  That’s Tina for you.  She talks to me like I am a human and speaks her mind like I do.  Now if she could just keep Gizmo (the chihuahua my other human owns) to leave me alone when I’m being petted, I would be in Heaven!

I also like cats.  I love to clean kittens and let the cats sleep on my belly!  I don’t know why other dogs chase cats and such, but I am not like that. I’m a good dog!    I have to start getting treated for the heart worms in the morning, but I know why Tina is upset. I heard her talking to my humans on her phone…She’s upset because getting treatment for heart worms is also very dangerous to older dogs.  I won’t be allowed to do anything I like for the next 8 weeks–meaning the only exercise I will get is to be taken out in the yard on a leash to use the bathroom.

You see, as the adult heart worms die, they will travel to my lungs and once there, they decompose and are absorbed back into my body.  This can make me very ill, but it’s very important that I rest because if I get too energetic and start going ape, it can put too much stress on my poor old heart.  My humans love me, and they’ll make sure I’m taken care of now–but mama Tina is ready for me to move in with her.  She really does love me more than she lets on, but that’s okay! I am a good and faithful old friend, and I know she will look after me at either place!

The reason I am telling you all about this stuff going on is that heart worms are preventable.  That is why Tina is so upset.  She always made sure I had all I needed on time as a pup–and so did her sister Ruby!  Now she’s coming through again.  However, it is better for you guys to prevent this by giving your pets their monthly heart worm medication.  It only takes one bite from a mosquito carrying the eggs to put these into your pet’s bodies.  I certainly don’t want any other animal to suffer like I am suffering right now–even if I refuse to show it much around my humans.  Good night for now.

Buddy

Buddy--Christmas 2o1o

It’s been a dog day! And I love it!

Well, he might as well be since I spend more time with him at the moment…He is the smartest dog I’ve come across in a while, and he’s so loving.  He actually tries to “converse” with us.  If I make a certain sign, he will sit and raise his paw up for me to shake it.  He will also “speak”.  It’s getting harder for him to play fetch now…Even when he did, he thought he was supposed to grab the ball and make us come after it! 😀   He moves a little more slowly now, and pays attention a little more…Then I realized something that almost slipped away since he was so excited to see me today…This dog is almost 12 years old.

It seems like it was just yesterday that my son, Kevin brought him home.  He was a puppy–not more than eight weeks old at the time.  Kevin said he’d found him with the fishing hook through the bottom of his mouth.  We took him to the veterinarian, got his shots and were set up to let the Humane Society adopt him out.  Well, they had no room so we agreed to foster–only one month turned into another.  Finally, we decided to scrap that idea and keep him.  He’s part of the family.  He is so sweet and none of us could resist that face.

He doesn’t like people with uniforms of any kind because our FORMER postman sprayed tear gas on him when he was about 12 weeks old–even though Buddy couldn’t reach him.  Kevin being ever so brave went berserk and called the postmaster general!  That carrier was removed from the route because of the fact that Buddy was still just a puppy and the supervisor saw no need for such action since Buddy was in an enclosed area–just close to the yard.

Buddy also likes to come into the house and see everyone.  His favorite thing to do is to put his paw up on the arm of a chair and try to “converse” with us.  He also likes catching dog treats!

Now as for giving him a bath–we have to spell that.  He hates water.  He doesn’t like getting his coat brushed either, but will let us do it.   God help us all if I take him to get him groomed any time soon.  However, taking him on walks is fun…He takes the leash in his mouth and thinks he’s walking us! He likes going to the vet too. Weird huh? 😀

Anyway, it seems like just yesterday that Kevin brought Buddy home.  And it was just a few days ago that Kevin told the true story of what happened.  He said the kid he took Buddy away from threw a fishing rod and was “reeling” Buddy in, so Kevin went up to the kid in the street, decked him, broke the fishing rod  and took Buddy from him as the kid ran down the street crying.  He said Buddy’s yelping really got him upset and that boy didn’t deserve him so he took him.  I was wondering why no one ever claimed him because he is such a sweet-natured dog.

I always got onto Kevin for his temper because he always thought he had to jump in–but that was one time where I couldn’t say much.  When I was his age, I (most likely) would have done the same thing…I brought strays home ALL the time and drove my parents absolutely NUTS!

Buddy and some of his humans! Kevin is on the left and his brother Eric is turned away from the camera!

This is my youngest son, Kevin...Eric is the darker haired one. I guess Kevin is a hero, huh? LOL

Oh…That chihuahua is Kevin’s “daughter” 🙂  Princess!  Her leg was broken when she was accidentally dropped last year but she’s fine!

Buddy likes to sleep at the foot of our beds, so if he moves in with me, he’ll be an indoor dog for the most part.  He’s going to be on my fenced patio while I’m at work though.  He’s got a doghouse and such so he’ll be fine…I’ll just have to lock my gate.  I’m glad he likes watching TV and listening to music.  Then again, as I said earlier, he’s part of the family!
