Political Correctness Truly Defined (Part 2)

I want to make something perfectly clear here. I do not feel that one’s political views should have any bearing on whether or not they are accepted as artists, writers, singers, etc…The trend in Hollywood has been for decades to embrace the far left and shut out anyone with any views that deviate from that view, even if the person trying to make a living is middle of the road.

There is a view among many in society that a comic should only entertain according to the point(s) of view that are personally acceptable to them. Artists in all camps do not accept this notion as it is a form of dictating their material, or in easier terms to understand, societal censorship.  Politicians have been subject to ridicule from both sides of the spectrum but it is only when someone who is in power on the left that the specter of censorship rears its ugly head.

There were proposed rule changes to the FCC about writers and reporters that did not get put into place because those rules interfere with the first amendment and since the media is largely “owned” anyhow, it was a waste of taxpayer funds to make such rules. If the people of the United States wanted government controlled media, they’d start moving elsewhere.

Reporters, if they have any sense of ethics, should be reporting the story truthfully, without interjecting what they think should happen as a result of the evolving stories coming into place. The people do not need a journalist to help them make up their minds. They have a sense of what they feel is right and what they feel is wrong.  In fact, if anything, viewers should find any reporter that takes it upon himself/herself to try to change their views on any issue to be insulting. That is not their job. If they want to get preached at by anyone, they will turn off the television and go to church. The audience, for the most part, wants the story–without how  the person reporting “feels” about it.

Both the media and Hollywood have worked very hard to be the self-appointed moral compass of this nation and that is the last thing they should be. Individuals can decide the course of their own destinies without their advice. For the most part if they are not paid to entertain, they are paid to inform. Personally, unless I’m watching the news or PBS, I do not want to hear about political topics. I go to movies to escape these things. I go to concerts to escape these things. When those in these fields try to tell me I should have point of view A rather , point of view B, I tend to get rather angry.

I do realize that some acts in general ARE politically motivated and write their music accordingly. If the fans want that, that is their decision. Those acts are doing what they think is their “mission” in life which is to bring awareness. There is nothing wrong with that.  The same holds true for writers who make it known what the purpose is for script A or script B. However if it’s not on a topic that has my interest, I won’t go or watch the show.  However that is NOT the job of the journalist and they need to get back to reporting the news and stop giving 3 minutes of story and 30 minutes of editorializing.

When writers insert politics into a script with what otherwise would be a very good drama that isn’t pushing their views, I change the channel. I do not want to watch a TV sitcom and hear about how good Obamacare is. That is not why I watch TV. Thank God the Brits aren’t doing that crap. However getting money from grants to do so is an incentive. I’m sure if the GOP had done that, the left would be screaming bloody murder about taxpayer funds going toward that. Well I would also, but it is because taxpayer funds shouldn’t be going to pay for advertising government programs and campaigning on mainstream TV shows on MY DIME.

We have a 17 trillion-dollar deficit and that is the last thing government money should be going to…Common sense should dictate as much.

As for Hollywood, they should have followed Clint Eastwood’s example when he hired both Tim Robbins and Sean Penn to be in “Mystic River”. He hired objectively and their political views didn’t make a bit of difference. He hired them on the merits of their talent.  Remember Matt McConaughey’s Oscar acceptance speech and how Hollywood cringed? I hate to burst their bubble that speech was indicative of a more “new age” view than anything, which many there embrace.  Hollywood, by exhibiting such bias, is alienating  the movie going audience. As they continue to lose more at the box office due to this and the rising prices of tickets, they should bear in mind that if they cannot be open to viewers of all factions, this trend will continue.

That being said, if anyone is open to the idea of opening up an Independent movie studio in TX, I know of a place that is for sale in a desert location that would make an excellent spot due to it’s historical significance alone–for a cool $2.9 million bucks and you’d better snatch it up before a certain studio in California decides to do so (if they get the idea)! I just had to throw that in, but have a great day!

I Stand Alone Yet Not Alone

I am one alone. I walk my mountain in solitude, even as the approach of autumn means my birds and such are beginning to leave. It is in this place I am safe. It is in this place I am one with all that surrounds me and know that although I stand alone, I am not alone.  As the cool air blows through the trees which are about to enter their slumber, the Earth beneath my feet seems to energize my inner being by letting me know that no one has carved into her and marred her any further here–yet.  Hopefully no one ever will.

The foxes aren’t here right now. They seem to be staying in their own domiciles as of late.  Once in a while I see a few stray birds up in the sky of blue. I feel a sadness at their departure, but  with joy knowing that they will return in the Spring.  All is a reminder that the circle continues and will not end–even when the day comes that my life is over.

I hope to be by the Ocean again one day and far away. We shall see what awaits me, that is for certain. Have a great day.

Okay…It Just Got Nasty in America…REALLY NASTY.

WARNING: THIS IS A RANT AND I AM RAISING HELL TOWARD THE END OF THIS POST AGAINST THOSE WHO HATE ANY STATE BELOW THE  36TH  PARALLEL. THERE IS SOME VERNACULAR IN HERE…NOT REAL BAD BUT ENOUGH FOR ME TO WARN YOU IN ADVANCE.

Here is my take on what I see going on in this country and since I’m out here, and the politicians are up on their mental Mt. Olympus reading, “Profiles in Courage” which may or may not have been written by JFK, here is what I hear and see going on. Most of America is fed up of both parties representing their own egos (along with other interests) and not the people of this country.

These employees, whose paychecks are signed by the money they rob from us and the blood of our sons and daughters, continue to vote or pass what they THINK is best for America despite what America wants. This goes beyond doing what is “right” or “wrong”. In the mind of America, Washington D.C. is failing dismally at doing it’s job. They know they are paid to represent THE PEOPLE…Not their special interests…Not the bankers…Not Soros…Not the UN…

They are paid to represent the people of the United States of America and no matter which senator is in what party, if he/she is NOT doing THAT, he/she should be sent a resounding message by voting for a different candidate–and I still say the Libertarians and other 3rd parties are going to have a field day at election time over this.

I have dealt with one former FB friend in particular who calls everyone who doesn’t swallow the Dem Party platform hook-line-and sinker a “right-winger”.   She wants her agenda and only her agenda to be law.   The reality is, both parties are the problem in this country.

Americans are a lot more concerned with the money going out of their paychecks than they are with who marries who OR who gets an abortion. These are facts. This is what people out here are saying and it’s not just in “Red States” as she tries to allege. It’s everywhere.

I’m going to address something else that is going to help decide the next election.  Regional bias.  This intense hatred of any and all states that are considered to be “RED” by the media and the “Blue States”  is generally any state below the 36th parallel.  It is time for the media and the states above it to get it through their collective heads that the Civil War has been over for a very long time.  These divides have nothing to do with race or that war.  They have everything  to do with ideology.

Most governing bodies have learned that if you tamper with the average working person’s paycheck and they have the ability to do so, they will vote you out in the next election. Period.  This isn’t about gay marriage–which most aren’t too concerned with anymore. Let people marry who they want and mind your own business on that issue.  Now that this has been dealt with both major parties need to shut up and drive on. It’s about the economy.

Universal Health care is not a bad idea. What is disputed is how it was implemented with THIS legislation as opposed to how other countries such as Spain and Belgium implemented theirs.  Even European countries and Canada said this bill was a travesty, and they should know. They have had socialized medicine for years. I guess people who blindly follow their politicians they worship like sheep didn’t realize that even some of the authors of it are saying it is a train-wreck now because it will kill jobs. That is ONE thing I do agree with the right-wing on–the fact that jobs are being lost and hours cut to part-time over it.

There are those in the Democratic Party who are bigoted against any person living in a Red State. That is what I have encountered here.  That type of hatred and bigotry is what is turning people to third parties. The people are do this are no different than the “haters” they condemn. It is regional bias and it is as evil as racism and misogyny.  This is why Red States don’t tend to listen to what Blue States have to say at all, and this is a fact.  I also think that the hatred for Blue states from the Red ones is no different.  It is also turning people to any candidate that will support putting money back into American paychecks–even if it means repealing the ACA in a few years.  No Democrat will win any hearts and minds by tolerating this type of bias among their own members and neither will the GOP.  They need to police themselves a bit.

If they want to keep Universal Health Care, the government is going to have to look at Spain and Belgium and try to implement something similar in time because the American people as a whole do NOT like parting with rent money, grocery money, gas money and other things that are needed. This isn’t about “the rich paying their fair share” either.

If you really want to know what angers me at both parties right now, it is that they think they are above the law and continually exempt themselves from it. It is time for THIS:

“Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States.”

This would be the 28th Amendment to the Constitution should it be ratified and I will support any candidate that will uphold it.

I only look for support for this to come from the people who are fed up with the status-quo and some Libertarians.

What are the other states going to do if some of the states that are hotly opposed to this particular law implement the right to nullification? Yes, states do have the right to say, “We aren’t going to enforce this.” like it or not.

Now I am going to vent like hell. Buckle up. I am about to get really ugly and nasty here. Here is the reality of the situation in this state and why we don’t trust either party for the most part:

Cost of living should be a factor in deciding subsidies and I can assure you, there are families making $35K a year living in tents around here. I’m paying to live in an RV and had to leave a 3 BR house.  I was paying $495 for the house until my check got hit. I’m paying $600 for the RV and of that, the rent space is $400. This is what is really pissing people off. Elderly people ARE living in storage rooms and this was just another hit to those of us who have to live out here.  My take home pay right now is around $400 a week. $600 rent, $433 car payment, money for gasoline,  $250 for medical expenses even WITH the insurance and my expenses are now outweighing income.

Food banks are keeping busy right now. To save propane, I eat in a soup kitchen. This is reality, but these people are wonderful. They are going through the same thing. Legally, I am considered to be homeless even though I have a paycheck. To others who are affected in this respect, Obamacare is going to be a HUGE issue even though it is the greed from this oil boom out here that is causing the housing problem. This state is in trouble–big time if it doesn’t put in rent controls. The Democrats won’t do it because they are on the board of Realtors . The GOP won’t do it because they own most of the property in question. Now everyone knows why TX is getting mad at BOTH major parties and the problem is spreading to other areas where the new shale bed was discovered.

And then we have to sit and listen to this bullshit about how “Red States are to blame for yada, yada, yada” and it is getting really old to those of us who voted for people like Ann Richards…REALLY old. To those of us who experience that type of bigotry (and we are of several races), it is no different than the hatred exhibited by the WBC, the KKK or anyone else of that ilk. We are not “right-wing”. We are not “left-wing”. We are Texans. We are also Americans. If you want our respect, those who have bashed this state should give it some. We are not Rick Perry.  In fact, a lot of us didn’t vote for him.  Personally, I’d love to resurrect Ann Richards because she took no shit off of the Democratic Party OR the GOP.  Neither did Mark White.  If Mark White would run, I’d vote for him in a heartbeat. By the way haters, he is a Democrat…

Hate me all you like…Hate my state…Say all the bad things about the people here that you want, but for all the arrows you shoot in our direction and/or at any other southern state, “red state” or whatever else you label them by, it will only turn on you later. If you hate this state that much, vote to kick it out of the union.  We have our own infrastructure and power grid.  You’d be doing us a favor, being that 85% of the military comes from here and would probably move back here to help rebuild us as an independent nation if you really don’t want us in the union.   Oh I forgot…You need the oil from the shale that put hard-working Americans like yours truly into an RV park…Happy now?  Yeah, that big oil money you haters keep bitching about is what helps get tax money to cover all the programs you so love keeping around.  You can’t have it both ways. Either you want us to be in the union, or you don’t. If you don’t, then write to your congressman/woman to kick us out.  By the way, if you do that, you don’t have to bitch about that faction that wants to secede anymore too.  Oh, I forgot! You don’t want to have nothing to bitch about! It’s what keeps you haters going!

There…I’m through bitching.  Happy now?  I have to go anyway.  The smell of that package I just got via my grandson reminds me a lot of the haters’ bullshit I read on Facebook.  Then again, those haters are like used diapers.

Oh by the way, if you DO decide to kick this state out of the union, will it be ejected along with the original lands it came into the union with being that the people of Texas never voted on being annexed in the first place? If you’re not sure about where those lands are, Google it.

The New Mob…

Note: Most who know me know that politicians are the last people on Earth I would ever put my trust into. That is where this is coming from…

A mobster walks in to your business. “We can give you protection but you’ll need to pay us a certain fee for this protection.” “I don’t need or want what you have to offer. I can protect myself.”  you tell him. “You might want to reconsider that. Things can happen, yanno?”he says.

“I’ll take my chances.” you say to him.

Within two weeks he comes into your store, holds you at gun point and takes a third of your earnings for that day and tells you, “There is nothing you can do about this. You’ll pay it one way or another and we are coming once a pay period to collect. This is our neighborhood and we OWN the police.”

Then you are left struggling. “How can I pay the bills? The car payment? The vendors?” Your significant other is in tears and says, we should leave this place… What do you do? Leave or try to change it?

Think about this seriously for one moment.  It is your business and family being extorted…YES, EXTORTED. Now let us change-up the scenario a bit…

Let us look at our government officials.  They have taken upon themselves to pass into effect an extortion bill without the consent of the governed. By this I mean the Affordable Care Act.  The only ones who benefit from this are those who cannot or will not pay.  And those of us who obey the law, keep our jobs and DO pay are having to move out of our homes in West Texas. It is the working people like us–LIKE ME who have to live in an RV/Camper that my former boss owns because on what I make I cannot even rent an apartment. I could live in my car if something were to happen, but hopefully it won’t happen anytime soon.

Please don’t go into the supply vs. demand bullshit. There are two to three property management companies in town that handle ALL of the apartments here and they began gouging when they realized the boom was coming and it is happening EVERYWHERE in West Texas.  There are many families with $35K a year coming in that have to live in tents and storage rooms over this crap. Thanks to this, I can’t even save up the money to MOVE elsewhere. We are trapped in this area like slaves.  I actually think it was planned out to be this way too.

No American should have to live like this but this is our government at work in all of its infinite lack of wisdom. It is my opinion that they are trying to make everyone dependent upon it. They are creating the crisis to get us to cave into them. That is the last thing we should be doing. Why? They work for US. WE are not here to serve them and their lemmings and special interests. The two major parties are destroying the country and it is time we change direction totally. I will never vote for a candidate out of either major party again–unless they are Libertarian leaning. They lied to us all and failed us as a people.

And if we really wanted to send a strong message to them as a people, all everyone would have to do is pull together and pass a law that requires all citizens are to receive the same quality of care and help regardless of profession, sex, race, age, income etc with NO EXEMPTIONS–meaning our fearless government leaders (sarcasm intended) would have to be on the same program…  Pass a law like that and it  will over-ride this damned debacle they didn’t read in the first place. In fact, they should be fired and jailed for not reading it, subjecting US to it and EXEMPTING THEMSELVES from it.  NO OTHER COUNTRY does this to its people…

At least with a bill like I gave an example of, they CANNOT be exempt from it.  It would also make void direct IRS access to our bank accounts and leave decisions about medical care between doctor, patient and his/her family and not some idiot not qualified to practice medicine on the other end of a phone line.

When our founders wrote the Constitution, they did not intend to exempt themselves from the laws they passed. They did not set themselves up like a monarchy or oligarchy either. They did not believe in the principle of “diplomatic immunity” either. This country needs to change that as well.  We are the only country that allows this garbage to the best of my knowledge.

Anyway back to my original point. They are supposed to be working for US. Not passing laws over the will of the population and that is exactly what has happened. The only way to change this is to win elections locally first–right down to mayoral races and school board elections and work our way up from there. And I seriously hope that all of them who signed this into law get convicted of running the nation’s largest Ponzi scheme, which is exactly what this sham of a health care law is. By passing it, the government has made itself the new “mob”.

And before anyone starts bitching, I pay my share and always have. I grew up and had to work 2 jobs–sometimes 3 to survive. I should not have to do that again at my age and it really has me pissed off.  THAT is what both major parties have done for me. That is why I have never trusted politicians and never will–especially Dems and Repubs.   Don’t try to tell me the Dems are for the poor and working class either. After what they did to the unions, I know that is bullshit.  Don’t tell me the Repubs care about my values either.  If they did, the Sioux  would have been awarded the land stolen from them over time–when the descendants of the thieves that stole it, who are now on it (and controlling it) die off.

Either way, I am looking at 3rd party candidates for the most part in my state over this crap.

The Shame and Scourge of West Texas–Nana is MAD!

I have posted before on the growing problem of homeless families in the Midland/Odessa Texas area. I find it appalling that the number of homeless families with working members is on the rise in West Texas. I am writing a proposal of my own to send to Washington D.C. that will allow the federal government to collect the extra profits from such gouging/profiteering  and remove the incentive to raise rents to the point that it is discriminatory against women, elderly and the minority populations. If it doesn’t stop now, the cancer of the working poor living in the streets will only increase. If the states won’t put rent controls in on their own, then it is the duty of the Federal Government to step in and put a stop to this greed.  Whether this takes place during a natural disaster (which IS illegal) or a boom, it is an outrage and Texas should be ashamed for not stepping up to the plate to prevent further displacement of its elderly and its families.

Even rents on a lot of  HUD assisted housing have also  increased in these areas.  This also needs to be addressed as the owners of such properties are merely making money off of the backs of the poor with this garbage. I am formulating my proposal as I type and will post some provisions I am putting into it  in a later post, but there will be some that I would like your comments on.  Get ready…Nana is about to go on the warpath against the greed and corruption that is coming with this boom.

The property management companies and landlords who are doing this are a scourge and a disgrace to Texas and to the entire nation. It is the duty of America to expose them and this practice and do what we can to put a stop to this outrage! It is affecting our entire state and the children–and when it comes to our children we have a duty to protect them from this scourge! That is my opinion.  To those thinking of moving here–you will be lucky to find a place to put an RV in West Texas right now. Good luck! You’ll need it as the prices of rental spaces in the campgrounds are getting out of control too.

Nana Learned a Lesson on Thanksgiving…

Sometimes misunderstandings can lead to a lot of grief this time of year. I totally misunderstood something one of my boys said–well actually, I misinterpreted what he said, but let me start at the beginning.  I got off work and got home late on 11/21…Spent 2.5 hours cleaning up the kitchen that one of the boys messed up…No one EVER confesses to such messiness but I did clean it up.  About 30 minutes later one of the boys comes in and puts some food in the refrigerator which I felt was food for Thanksgiving Day.  So much for that.

I then heard one say they were spending Thanksgiving with the ex…Knowing my boys, that translates into they are cooking T-Day dinner at MY HOUSE.  I had to be at work at 2 p.m. and nothing was done by 11. In fact, nothing was cooked.  Nobody wanted to get up to go to our local truck stop, which had turkey dinner and all the trimmings either…I went alone.  I worked my fanny off thinking my ex was in my house enjoying the day, with me not getting anything.

I came into the house and found out that the ex never showed up and nothing was ever cooked.  The boys decided to can the idea. The part I misunderstood was the part about the ex eating with them in MY HOUSE.  THAT complicates things since the man tends to go through all the food in the house if I am not there–OR he leaves some of  his stuff there which irritates the hell out of  me and I’ve told him NOT to do that.

Anyway, while I was feeling sorry for myself at work, a man who had come to my defense once thinking someone was disrespecting me as a lady entered the store. I wasn’t being disrespected, so that was cleared up quickly.  He didn’t understand what Thanksgiving was about and hadn’t eaten in a day.  He said, “America sucks!”  I knew something was up so I followed him outside and asked him what was going on.  He didn’t know how to get to the Salvation Army so that he could eat a hot meal, and I didn’t know how to get there from where I was, but I remembered how he tried to “stand up for me” when he thought I was being yelled at.

I knew he wasn’t acting normally because he is usually very friendly.  I asked him what happened and he told me.  To make a long story short, this man is from Australia and he’s writing a book–traveling on foot across the U.S.  I explained to him what Thanksgiving means to various cultures  and that those who judge one another in an  unkind way have not learned that many people in this country have not learned that we all bleed red yet.  He felt a little better after that and my co-worker and I bought him something to eat.  It was the least that we could do.  Isn’t this what Thanksgiving is about? Sharing?

He smiled before leaving and was telling another man, “Now I know what Thanksgiving is!,” then he turned to us and said, “Thank you for giving me something to be Thankful for!”

Then it made the pain of the misunderstanding go away, and that got resolved later.

The moral of this is that things are never as they seem and someone ALWAYS has it worse off than you do…It is my fervent hope that the injustices to the homeless in the area gets taken care of soon.   As I said in an earlier post, winter is coming.  Too many people in Midland, TX have lost their homes (even though they make a decent salary)  due to the price-gouging on the rent and the hotel fees there.  Somewhere along the way some of these people who run the hotels, apartments and rent houses have lost sight of the fact that the boom will one day bust  They had better hope that Midland has a  kinder spirit toward them should they ever fall upon hard times.

Where is the Justice for the Homeless Around Here?

In West Texas there is a crisis going on, but before I get to that,  I have told my sons we have to find ways to conserve on electricity around here.  I get emails on the usage and this month’s electric bill is already sitting at $197.00.   I think someone is gouging…Sorry.  Every time there is an oil boom the price of everything goes sky-high.

In Midland, TX there are families that have jobs making $35K a year living in tents and on the streets because when the oil field workers began to arrive, landlords raised the rents up astronomically.  I can’t believe the Attorney General hasn’t stepped on some toes here over it.  The motels all went up to $189+ per night–and even Motel 6 has jacked up their rates in the area.  The hotels are also trying to charge a “county tax” which is ILLEGAL. There IS NO SUCH TAX. The taxes they pay are to be included in their prices–otherwise they are breaking the law.  They are stealing–pure and simple. Whether due to a disaster or a boom, it is price gouging.  The electric company is doing the same thing. They say the price of oil is the reason that goes up…I don’t buy it.  It never happens until there is being money pumped into a place.

These people pushing families into the streets to make an extra buck need to be addressed.  Half of the landlords do not even repair housing and such and scoff at their tenants who need something as simple as a water heater fixed. They are getting away with this behavior because they are being ALLOWED to get away with it and if the City of Midland isn’t going to do something about it, then the Attorney General’s office should be–as well as the Texas Board of Realtors.  I am waiting for the first class action suit to hit the fan out here. It will eventually happen. Even many of the oil field workers cannot afford the rent so there are FEMA trailers being brought into the yards they go out to work from for them to stay in.

This is NOT California and Midland is NOT New York City. In those two places the fees are genuine and pertain to the cost of living there.  That is not the case here. It is all an artificial increase.  It’s time for the people to stand up and address these con artists and thieves for what they are.  If necessary,  rent controls need to be put  into  place via the powers that be in Austin since the City of Midland is not addressing this–and neither is the county.  There is no reason why these families should be on the street–many of them losing their apartments and such after being faithful tenants for years and are INELIGIBLE for any type of help because they are WORKING…Where is the outrage?  Where is the call for justice?  If there ever was a justification for the mantra of “social justice” permeating the air–it lies in Midland, Texas.  Better yet, where in the bloody hell is the media at?

I am not a Democrat or Republican and this is not a political brownie point plank for some politician to jump on.  The problem needs to be addressed and fixed NOW. Winter is coming.  By then these families should be either back in their apartments that were WRONGFULLY taken from them at the rents they had before, or there should be suitable housing provided. If nothing else FEMA should come in and build mobile home parks because this is an emergency…

Natural disasters aren’t the only problem plaguing this state and/or nation. Greed is another one right now–especially here. Shame on these people who are doing this!  I do not think it is only happening here. I think other places experiencing a boom are going through the same thing–but SOMEONE needs investigate this and strongly address it.  Only ONE news channel has covered this so far that I know of, and that was Channel 7. Shame on the media…They are too busy talking about politics and such to address the issues that really do matter. There is a huge responsibility for journalists to cover such things and they aren’t (for the most part)…Shame on them.

A Last Minute Road Trip Pays Off!

Oh my god! Where do I begin here?  I went to a couple of places this past week that totally blew me away!  Before I go into this bit of adventure, I need to thank LaurenVasil for inspiring me to get off of my butt and just freaking go, Go, GO!!!  I was reading her blog on her recent road trip from Brooklyn, NY to Los Angeles, CA…You can read about it here: www.fizgiggery.com

These posts inspired me to come out of my cave long enough to find out about some things in W. Texas I never took the opportunity to go see.  I found two places that blew me away.  One was Monahans, TX and the other was Balmorhea, TX.  I am putting the pics here as proof of how amazing these places are–despite their size.  These places are writer’s havens to me.  I can camp out under the stars by the sand dunes of Monahans, or I can stay at the motel at the State Park outside of Balmorhea.  Both places are so unique, and they posses a beauty all their own. The people in both places are very friendly and I had a couple of people already ask about my metamorphosis necklace this week, and it seems that when I go elsewhere–people are curious about it!  I got it from www.flaurena.com   folks.

I will also go into some info about both places, starting with my adventure in Monahans.  On a hot, miserable day in West Texas, I decided that while hanging out in Midland, I would go to the visitor’s center off of I-20 and see what they had to show me.  The two women working there were so sweet, and explained a bit of the History of each place they told me about.

Did you know that one of the authors of the James Bond books is from Midland, TX?  Well, if you didn’t, look up Raymond Benson.  Woody Harrelson also was from the area, as well as Carolyn McCormick (who played Dr. Olivet on Law and Order).  Little known trivia:  When Mother Nature isn’t on crack, like she’s been all year this year, Tommy Lee Jones also comes to Midland quite a bit–sometimes to play polo, but he has property that he owns in San Saba, TX. Kathy Baker (from “Edward Scissorhands”) was also from Midland.

Mezzo-Soprano  Susan Graham also hails from Midland, TX.  Those of you who live in San Francisco and frequent the opera will know who she is.

Now for my adventure!  It began last Friday when I got thoroughly bored to death in Big Spring.  I really got tired of the 111 degree weather (in the shade) and decided to take advantage of some time off–which I will do again next week!  Since I can’t seem to get to White Sands, or the Apache reservation to check it out in New Mexico, I decided that I was going to see if there is anything that strikes my fancy near here. My first stop was Monahans…It is not the White Sands Missile Range, but it’s cool!   Here are a few pics:

These look like regular bushes, but they are not. They are the tops of oak trees, which help to hold the dunes together. They come up about knee-high, but their trunks and roots can extend far into the ground–the roots sometimes going underground for miles.

Like I said, it is not the White Sands Missile Range, but the kiddies love sliding down these in a saucer. Some even bring snowboards!

This is one of the street signs in Monahans (5 miles up the road from the park)! I’ve never been to a town that had these toppers on them!  Other streets have different metal art on them, but they are cool!

Now for the second leg of my journey, I went to Balmorhea, TX.  This park has a HUGE spring fed pool.  It also has a hotel on the premises.  There are two hotels in town and a restaurant called “The Bear’s Den”.  This town is small–a smudge on the map, but the people are very, very friendly and it’s beauty lies in that it is a small, quiet place for a writer to hide out in, if he or she chooses to do so.  It definitely appeals that reclusive side of myself that I have kicked to the curb more than once in the past two years.   The spring runs parallel to the street on the south side.  There are little walking bridges that cross it as well as the street crossings.

As I said before, this water is so clear it is truly amazing.  If there is an oasis in the desert around here–this is definitely it!  Here are some pics from this leg of my trip also.  I fully intend to go back either tonight or tomorrow.

Hey! If you decide to check this place out–there are phone #’s on here!

The spring on the roadside--view 1

Those big, black fish are catfish…I thought these were nocturnal. I guess not. Anyway, these are HUGE! They are actually about 15 ft. down. I am standing on the edge here. Just to give you an idea of what this is like, even at the 35 ft. end, you can see the bottom of the spring. It reminds me of the films I’ve seen of the reefs…One can snorkel and such in here. I didn’t know this prior to my departure, though.

Just another shot of the spring…I can’t believe how clear the water is!

Reed shot…This is a close up of the spring behind the motel that is at the State Park…

This would make an interesting screen saver, I think…What do you think? I decided to use my telephoto lens on the 2nd reed shot.

This is a shot of the motel by the state park.

This is a shot showing how the spring runs behind the motel rooms…It is prettier than it looks. You can get directions to this place and it is worth going to~! The food here rocks!

I knew there was something special….I thought of Margaritaville when I saw the parrot! LOL

This is the front of the Bear’s Den!

I am including a couple of shots of this simply because of the way this sits in the water…The spring flows around it. There is a church out behind it, but I thought this was simply “art”. I am not Catholic, but this moved me…It is simply beautiful. It is on the side of the road as you enter or leave Balmorhea–depending on the direction you take.

Another shot of beauty.

I found the people here to be so friendly, and the area itself to be so tranquil that I must return to this place.  It is every bit as sacred to me as my mountain now.  I truly hope you enjoyed this, and if you decide to go there, let me know!  The town may be small, but if one is looking for peace and quiet–then this is the place to visit!

It is Now Official! Mother Nature is on CRACK! Texas Needs RAIN!!!

This is going to be a short and to the point post.  Why is it that TX is having the worst drought it has experienced since 1917?  I’ll tell you why! MOTHER NATURE IS ON CRACK! That’s why!  This is NOT how an afternoon sun should look!

Would you really like to  know what this is guys? It is smoke! That’s right! It’s smoke from a wildfire burning in the Forsan, TX area.  That is 13 miles from where I’m at.  On top of this the flu is seriously kicking my butt!    I have also notified the TX Forest Service of Mother Nature‘s chronic problem on their Facebook page

The next pic I’m going to put up SHOULD reveal a clear view of the hospital and the mountain I love to walk on about a mile and a half away from my house.  Due to the smoke, it looks like it’s 20 miles off or so!

You cannot even tell the mountain and the hospital are actually closer! They look like they are miles away!

 Here is yet another view…

It looks totally overcast huh?  What looks like a mountain or hill in the horizon should actually be a clear view of steep hill with the highway cutting through it.  However, until this state gets some much-needed rain, this is likely to continue.  Please keep us in your thoughts down here in Texas!  Thanks!

By the way, if you are travelling, you might want to keep the # for the Department of Public Safety handy.  You never know when you’ll need it… 😉

When your gut usually tells you to, it’s usually best to do so…

Did you ever have that feeling that you should take an opportunity, although it sounded like something that might not be your cup of tea (as in what you KNOW you can do)?  I have several times.  I have recently accepted a position as an assistant manager trainee.  I can work my way into full management within a year–which is a great opportunity with benefits.  I can do that job, so that is not the issue.  I know I could easily get an overseas job once my TESOL course is complete.  No problem…However something tells me that this is where I need to be for now.  Sometimes what you view as a lesser opportunity gives you an opportunity to learn and to grow.  This job  is already doing this.  I am learning to enjoy being “myself” again.

I love teaching.  I love working with students so maybe this is my de-briefing from sergeant mode! Being a corrections sergeant caused me to “lose” that part of myself that allowed me to be a little more trusting.  At times this is a good thing.  At others, I often wonder.  Everything is starting to turn green outside, and I am usually greeted by a blue sky, a decent temperature and a wonderful walk on my mountain. It is those times I spend up there that I feel most energized afterwards.

However I have another sanctuary I go to.  Check this out…I felt an urge to go there earlier and do some more reading…

Sanctuary #2--the one I never shared before...

I like sitting on that rock that’s over the water too.   This is just a place where I can go to get in touch with that part of myself I thought was lost–but is just sleeping from time to  time.  It is a part of my being that has lain dormant for too long in the cell I stuck it in for its own protection.  There are springs that feed into the pond here and the lake that follows beyond the earlier shot.

This spring flows underground before going into sanctuary #2...I think it's neat!

Some of my ancestors were Comanches who rode along trails in W. Texas.  They knew how to navigate the various lakes and streams in what most of the early settlers thought was desert land.  They would follow these trails and the water supply all the way to Northeast Texas.  The pictures I am sharing in this post were taken at Comanche Trail Park in Big Spring, TX.  Between this place and the mountain, I can always get some “me time” in.   I will go up to the mountain again when I get off of work tomorrow because I want to get a picture of that fox that is running around up there!  However, this picture will have to do as far as the company I had:

In my best "Al Pacino voice" I'm saying to myself: "Say hello to my little friends! And next time remember to bring them some freakin' food!" 😀

I love feeding the ducks…I just forgot the food today!  There is also another trail right across from this that leads down to another part of the spring which feeds the lake…When one stands in the middle where the spring flows across the trail, it looks like one is walking on water!

This spot is really cool! I'm looking toward the lake here! It is on the other side of that trail where you see the tree on the right.

Well, I am about to head off for work again, but I’ll be in one of two places when I get off!  If not at that park above, I’ll be here:

Another mountain shot...

Anyway, have a great day!  I know I will!
